Fitness enthusiast and reviewer from New York

The Short Version

I'm Avery Carter, based in New York, and for several years I've chronicled my experiences at fitness clubs across United States.

This site exists because I grew weary of selecting gyms based on ads and vague tips, only to find the reality differed from expectations. I wanted concrete, honest information about what these places were actually like. Since I could not find it, I decided to create it.

Over a dozen Gyms Visited
Three Years Active
More than 200 Classes Attended

How This Started

My workout routine began at a small club near 123 Fortitude Way in New York. It wasn’t flawless, yet it was approachable, budget-friendly, and helped me stay consistent.

After that place closed, I noticed how quickly the fitness scene in United States was evolving. New clubs opened, new concepts appeared, and marketing became louder than real member experience.

I began trying various gyms and classes, jotting notes after each visit. Those notes eventually became this site, designed to help others make more informed decisions.

My Approach to Reviews

Each review here stems from actual visits and time spent inside the facility. I focus on practical details that matter when picking a membership.

When I review a fitness center, I typically:

  • Spend sufficient time to understand routines, peak times, and usage patterns
  • Visit on various days and at different times
  • Experiment with multiple training formats and trainers
  • Use facilities regularly to assess cleanliness and comfort
  • Speak with other members about consistency and discrepancies
  • Note observations right after each visit

I revise reviews when major changes occur: renovations, leadership changes, price updates, or new facilities. Each entry lists its last update date so you can gauge currency.

What I Look For

My priorities may differ from yours, so here is what matters most to me when assessing a fitness center:

Comfort and Privacy: Does the space feel well-designed for members, with respectful boundaries and a calm atmosphere?

Equipment Reliability: Are machines well-maintained? Is there enough variety? Do fixes happen quickly?

Managing Crowds: Can you train during your preferred times without constant waiting?

Clean Facilities: Locker rooms, showers, floors, and equipment surfaces. Cleanliness shows how seriously management treats the member experience.

Transparent Membership Practices: Clear pricing, clear rules, and no unpleasant surprises.

Beyond the Gym

Away from training and writing, I live and work in New York. This project aims to simplify fitness choices and make them more transparent for people seeking the right setting.
